One Skillet Honey BBQ Chicken Rice

  • Author: ava_chapman
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

A quick, 20-minute one-pan meal featuring juicy chicken thighs, fluffy rice, and a sticky sweet and savory honey BBQ sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

  • Boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • Long grain white rice (Jasmine or Basmati)
  • BBQ sauce (thick, smoky variety)
  • Honey
  • Fresh garlic, minced
  • Fresh ginger, grated
  • Chicken broth (low-sodium)
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken thighs dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Rinse rice under cold water until water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with oil. Sear chicken thighs for 5-6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove chicken and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté minced garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour in BBQ sauce and honey, stirring to combine. Let bubble for one minute to thicken.
  6. Add rinsed rice and chicken broth to the skillet. Stir to combine with the sauce.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover with a lid and simmer for 15-18 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Do not lift the lid.
  8. Fluff rice with a fork. Chop cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces and return to the skillet.
  9. Toss everything together to coat chicken in sauce. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

Ensure chicken is completely dry before searing to achieve a good crust. Rinse rice thoroughly to prevent mushiness. If using brown rice, increase cooking time and liquid. Adjust honey and salt based on the sweetness of your BBQ sauce.
