One-Pot Sticky Honey Garlic Smoked Sausage Rice: 15-Minute Dinner

  • Author: ava_chapman
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and flavorful weeknight meal featuring smoked sausage, rice, and a sticky honey garlic glaze, all cooked in a single pot for minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage (Andouille or Kielbasa), sliced into half-moons
  • 1.5 cups uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the smoked sausage into half-inch rounds, mince the garlic, and chop the green onions. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage in a single layer and cook undisturbed for 2 minutes to brown, then flip and cook for 1 more minute. Remove sausage and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Add the uncooked rice to the pan with the garlic and stir constantly for 2 minutes until the grains are slightly translucent.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, honey, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer for 10 minutes without lifting the lid.
  7. Check the rice; if liquid is mostly absorbed, stir the cooked sausage back in. Turn off the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes to steam.
  8. Uncover the pan, sprinkle with green onions and red pepper flakes, fluff with a fork, and serve immediately.

Notes

Use day-old rice if substituting leftovers for better texture. Ensure soy sauce is tamari for a gluten-free version. Do not lift the lid during the simmering phase to ensure proper rice cooking. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
