One-Pan Cowboy Stir Fry: Easy 20-Minute Dinner

  • Author: ava_chapman
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A hearty, one-pan weeknight dinner featuring seared steak strips, crisp bell peppers, and onions in a rich, savory soy-worcestershire sauce. Ready in just 20 minutes with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs steak (Sirloin or Flank), cut into thin strips
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced into half-moons
  • 2 large bell peppers (red and green mix recommended), sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (low-sodium recommended)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or avocado oil)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat steak strips dry with paper towels and season generously with black pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, and cornstarch until dissolved. Set aside.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat.
  4. Sear steak strips in a single layer for 2 minutes without touching, then flip and cook for 1 more minute. Remove steak from pan and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, cook onions and bell peppers for 3-4 minutes until softened and charred. Add minced garlic in the last 30 seconds.
  6. Return steak and any juices to the pan. Pour sauce mixture over everything and toss gently.
  7. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat and vegetables.
  8. Serve immediately over steamed rice or cauliflower rice.

Notes

Slice steak against the grain for tenderness. Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure proper searing. Add garlic last to prevent burning. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water; if too thin, cook for another minute. Can be substituted with chicken thighs or portobello mushrooms for variations.
