Cheesy Cheddar Bay Burger Bake

  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

A quick and easy weeknight dinner that combines the flavors of a classic burger with garlic bread vibes. This bake is ready in under 15 minutes of prep and is perfect for busy families.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
  • 1/2 cup melted garlic butter (or melted butter mixed with minced fresh garlic)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 2 green onions, chopped (divided)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Optional: diced jalapeños, crumbled bacon, or cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, a pinch of salt, and dried parsley. Set aside half for the topping.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, half of the green onions, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix gently with hands or a fork until just combined.
  4. Pour half of the reserved garlic butter mixture into the beef bowl and mix to incorporate.
  5. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the dish, pressing down firmly.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef layer.
  7. Drizzle the remaining garlic butter mixture over the cheese.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly and edges are browned. Optionally broil for 1-2 minutes for extra crispiness.
  9. Let rest for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with remaining green onions.

Notes

Do not overmix the beef to keep it tender. Use 80/20 ground beef for best moisture and flavor. If using leaner beef, add a tablespoon of olive oil. For a gluten-free version, substitute bread crumbs with almond flour or gluten-free breadcrumbs. Can be frozen before or after baking.
